Aim

The aim of the workshop is to review the present state of the art detection systems that are being developed for the advanced materials studies using ion beam analysis (IBA) techniques. Lectures will be given by researchers from the SPIRIT partner groups, as well as by international experts in the development of detection technologies for IBA. The workshop is dedicated to potential and existing users of the SPIRIT network and is being opened also to young researchers from SPIRIT partner groups as well as from the other research groups that use ion beams for advanced materials characterisation. Participants will have chance to present their own research in the form of short oral presentations.

Date and venue

The Workshop was being held on 25th and 26th October 2010 in Hotel Jezero, Plitvice Lakes National park, Croatia. Plitvice Lakes are located 137 km south of Zagreb and are located in Croatia’s first National park, established in 1949. It covers 297 km2 of breathtaking natural splendour with numerous waterfalls that interconnects 16 lakes. The park was inscribed on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1979, in recognition of its ‘’outstanding natural beauty and undisturbed production of travertine through chemical and biological action. The park represents a phenomenon of karst hydrography.

Program

Sunday, 24 October:

Organized transfers from Zagreb to Plitvice lakes

Registration and Welcome reception

Monday, 25 October:

Scientific program

Tuesday, 26 October:

Scientific program

Social dinner

Wednesday, 27 October:

Transfers from Plitvice Lakes to Zagreb

Visit to the RBI accelerator facilities

The scientific program will consist of two working days divided into morning and late afternoon sessions with an extended lunch break reserved for walks around the National park. The first day will be devoted to the new developments of detectors and detection systems used in the state of the art systems for elemental or isotope analysis such as PIXE, RBS, ERDA, NRA etc. The second day will be oriented more towards techniques that can give structural information about samples, such as channelling and STIM, and on the electronic properties and radiation hardness of samples being irradiated. Participants will have possibility to present their work in the final session of short oral presentations.

You can view all presentations on the RBI website.
